Frost warning for Saturday, Sunday night; autumn officially begins this morning

The National Weather Service has issued a freeze watch for south central Wisconsin. A departing cold front willd rop into the upper 30s to middle 30s tonight, leaving some frost in its wake. Sunday night frost is also expected.

Cover those plants and get the last of the veggies off the vine, it’s going to get cold. Summer is gasping it’s death rattle and won’t give up. Tuesday is expected to hit a high of 73.

The first day of autumn is today, Sept. 22, when the autumnal equinox arrives at 10:49 a.m. this morning.

The word equinox comes from the Latin words for “equal night.” The fall and spring equinoxes are the only days of the year in which the Sun crosses the celestial equator. (Information courtesy the Old Farmers Almanac).
