Board gives Meier green light to complete road improvements

The Spring Grove Village Board agreed to allow Kim Meier, a developer for Thousand Oaks, to complete improvements to the road, even though the subdivision is not 75 percent completed.

Usually developers must wait to put the final layer on the roads when a subdivision is nearing completion, however due to the sluggish economy, developments are not reaching the 75 percent target quickly, causing the temporary roads in neighborhoods to deteriorate.

Several residents from Thousand Oaks attended the meeting in support of allowing Meier to pave the road now. The board was in favor of allowing Meier to move ahead with the project, in part because the neighborhood is assessed a yearly SSA (special service area) fee, which is used for future road repairs.

The thought is that the final layer that Meier will put in, will last around 15 years, and the accumulated funds from the SSA will be sufficient to repair the road in the future.

In other news, three trustee seats, along with village president are up for election in April 2013. Election packets are now available at the Municipal Centre for anyone wishing to seek office this spring.

The Winn Road bridge project is moving along. Providing the weather cooperates, President Mark Eisenberg said the road should re-open in early November.  The gas station on the corner of Route 12 and Winn Road will reopen late next week.

The next village board meeting will be Oct. 16. The first meeting of November is cancelled due to the election.
