Dog united with owner after five years

McHenry County Sheriff Keith Nygren has announced that a 6 year old female Siberian Husky will be reunited with its owner after the canine was missing for nearly 5 years. On Oct. 5, members of the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Bureau received a telephone call from Heather Jackson who resides in Chatsworth, Georgia. Jackson advised Sheriff’s Investigators that she is the owner of a 6 year old Siberian Husky named “Shakira” who was lost or stolen from her property in Georgia in December 2007.

On Oct. 3, Jackson received a telephone call from Home Again Pet ID Service who advised Jackson that “Shakira” was currently at Free Spirit Siberian Husky Rescue in Harvard, Illinois. Jackson gathered all of the necessary paperwork to prove ownership of “Shakira” and contacted Sheriff’s Investigators.

Sheriff’s Investigators and McHenry County Animal Control went to Free Spirit Siberian Husky Rescue and spoke with personnel who advised that “Shakira” arrived at Free Spirit on Aug. 11, after being shipped from a shelter in Murray County, Georgia. “Shakira” was scheduled to be euthanized when she was rescued by Free Spirit Siberian Husky. Free Spirit personnel learned that “Shakira” had a microchip and contacted Home Again Pet ID who then contacted Jackson. Sheriff’s Investigators verified the microchip information, and “Shakira” was turned over to McHenry County Animal Control Officers. “Shakira” is being held at McHenry County Animal Control where she will be reunited with Jackson on Oct. 6.
