Board considers new electric sign

By Annette Newcomb~Editor

The Village of Twin Lakes is considering upgrading its electric sign located at the “Caboose Corner” at the busy intersection of E. Main Street and South Lake Avenue.

Monday night the Committee of the Whole received two bids for the sign: $20,824.74 from Signs of the Times based in Delavan and Burli Signs, coming in with the low bid of $14,760.

The board was interested in the Burli Signs big but had a few questions. First, the bid did not clarify if “installation” included electric work. Also, there was some discussion that a portion of the current sign could be used for the current sign but COW members indicated they didn’t want to take chances preferred a new sign.

Board members will be looking as similar signs in Paddock Lake to make sure it fulfils the village’s expectations.

Village administrator Jennifer Pollitt said the display would be very similar to a Power Point presentation, with the ability to add graphics, colors, etc.

Village resident Linda Smith urged the board to take their time and make sure the sign they agreeing upon will be the one they want. “Some of these signs are just so aggravating,” Smith noted.

It was also noted both the Twin Lakes Chamber and the Twin Lakes Community Library indicated they would be interested in using the signs to promote their programs.

Trustees agreed a policy needs to be drawn up to protect the use of the sign.

“I think the sign should be used for civic matters only,” said Village President Howard Skinner. Trustees were in agreement the sign’s useage should be guarded.

More information is expected at the boards Jan. 198 meeting.

The Twin Lakes Chamber is interested in adding pole banners to the same corner, to help advertise its market.

Pollitt said the Chamber was still working out details with hits board but wanted to check with the village first to make sure such a thing was feasible before proceeding.
