Upper Horseshoe parking discussed

With kick off for Monday night’s football game rising on the horizon, the Twin Lakes Committee of the Whole tackled a quick list of housekeeping items.

A resident has requested the village consider no parking to be posted on the eastside of the street near 464 Upper Horseshoe Drive.

Parking became an issue during construction last summer and has continued. The COW decided to seek input from Chief Dale Racer and the Public Works Department.

Trustee Kevin Fitzgerald suggested parking might be allowed in the summer during social events, if the vehicles can pull off enough so only two tires would be in the road. It was noted homes on Upper Horseshoe have fairly deep driveways that should accommodate most parking needs.

There is much to consider and more discussion is expected at the next will board meeting, slated for Monday, Nov. 18.

In other COW business, Brian Walmsley, owner of Pier West, has requested his name be placed on the liquor license as the only agent.

In his request, Walmsley said he intends on closing the restaurant portion of the business, which was featured in Restaurant Impossible earlier this year. Walmsley is revamping the restaurant and will be operating the bar portion of Peir West by himself.

“The new restaurant will be built around an entirely new theme, concept menu, name and management team. I’ve been working extremely hard on developing a creative, gourmet, casual them and I truly am excited with what we have in store for everyone.”

• the village will begin seeking new legal services, primarily limited to general inquires and support. The village will continue to use the existing legal counsel for labor relations, land use and related matters.

The village put together a list of local attorneys and proposals are expected to be returned by Nov. 8. Interviews will be scheduled and on Dec. 2 the board is scheduled to make a recommendation and interviews by the final candidates would be conducted by the COW. On Dec. 16 the board would make a selection and award a contract. The contract would commence Jan. 1, 2014.

• language in the village’s ordinance for building permit signs will be cleaned up. Currently it reads permits are $25 when it should read the minimum charge would be $25. Building permit fees are based on the square footage of the project.

• the Plan Commission will meet at 6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 18, prior to the village board meeting. The village board is expected to begin later then usual, closer to 7:30 p.m.

• the village’s recycling center will close for the year on Saturday, Nov. 30. Time is running out if you have yard work to complete before the first snow.

• the COW tentatively approved payment number three for work on Lift Station No. 1 in the amount of $15,421.40, payable to Midwest General and Mechanical Contractors.

• the Twin Runners Snowmobile Club made its annual request for permission to mark a snowmobile path through Lance Park.

The Committee of the Whole is the workshop for the village board and no final decisions are made. The village board will meet about 7:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 30, following the plan commission, to consider these items.
