Silver Lake has a leak Who’s spilling the beans?

Two Silver Lake trustees commented during telephone interviews that they are tired of getting information from local media that they should be receiving from the village clerk and board president.

Before any of the trustees saw it, news of a petition for direct legislation hit the streets through local media source.

The resolution states, “Be it resolved the Silver Lake Village Board will not enter into any agreement with the Town of Salem for any sharing of fire department or rescue services, other than the usual MABAS (mutual aid) agreement.” The petition had more than 200 signatures.

Village President Sue Gerber had the only copy of the petition at the Feb. 5 meeting. Village clerk Terry Faber reported at that meeting that she received the first petition in late January and the last one on Feb. 3, but did not put copies in the packets for the trustees.

Board members Pat Dunn and Soti Wilber say they are frustrated by the leaks from the village hall. This latest regarding the direct legislation petition is the third in a series. When former trustee Barb Ironside resigned, trustees learned about it through a media source.

When Gerber received a letter from the state regarding who makes the call to call in a paramedic, the fire department or the Silver Lake Rescue Squad, the board read about the letter in a media source. Dunn said he had to ask for a copy of that letter during an open meeting.

Wilber commented, “It’s hard to work together when the board doesn’t get all the information.”
