Wilmot Special Ed students seek grant for classroom

By Gail Peckler-Dziki~Correspondent

Wilmot High School special education students need your vote. They have entered a two-minute video in the United Commercial Travelers (UCT) UCT Gives Back AGAIN $10,000 video contest. That video made it into a group of ten finalists and now its up to everyone to help them win the prize.

The video, explained Nolan, shows how the $10,000 can be used to make a difference in the lives of students through better communication. One shot in the video features student Owen Erlander learning to take notes on an I-Pad.

“Our goal would be to make sure that each student has an I-Pad to sue in the classroom,” Nolan said. “We have 23 students.”

When teacher Marcia Nolan learned about the contest she teamed up with fellow instructor Joe Reynolds and long-term substitute teacher Angela Babbin and her husband Ken to create a video showcasing the communication needs of their students. Ken wrote music for that video.

The video has been posted to an online gallery for everyone to vote at www.facebook.com/UCTinAction. The voting ends at 11:59 p.m. Eastern time on Friday, March 14.

UCT is a non-profit financial services membership organization with over 70,000 members in the U.S. and Canada. Members work to enhance communities through service, charitable fundraising and helping those in need. Since UCT is a non-profit, instead of paying dividends to shareholders, insurance operations help support members’ community service efforts.
