VFW Post 4551 hosts half-a-beef raffle

first place beef winnerVFW Post 4551 Antioch, concluded its Memorial Day Half-A-Beef raffle June 7 at the Antioch Packing House. Commander Robert Sokoloski (top, from left) and Quartermaster William Oerly presented checks for $250 each to Holly Vittitow of Antioch and Jean Craig of Antioch. The first place prize winner, Stacey Carney of Bristol, was unable to be present for the presentation. A check for payment was also presented to Frank Beranek (not shown), owner of Antioch Meat Packing who supplied the half a beef. According to Beranek, half a beef is approximately 380 to 400 pounds that has been aged for seven days. He said all beef sold by Antioch meat packing is raised in the United States The proceeds of the raffle provided VFW Antioch proceeds of $5,000, which will help with the funding for the various activities and events of the VFW in support of all veterans and their families.
