Still time to buy your duck and cardboard boat kit!
Summer officially begins with Libertyfest and that’s just around the corner.
Libertyfest grounds will open at 5 p.m. Friday, July 4, at Lance Park in Twin Lakes.
There will be food and beverages, games and inflatables for the kids.
Blind Draw Baggo sign up is at 6:30 p.m. tournament at 7 p.m. The Genoa City Lions Club Bingo starts at 5 p.m.
The Kyle Young Band will play from 5 to 7 p.m. followed by the Greg Brady Experience at 8 p.m.
Consider Friday night a warm up for Saturday because it will be a full day of fun and frolic.
Saturday begins with the county’s largest Fourth of July parade kicking off at 11 am. The parade begins at Legion Park and concludes at the Libertyfest grounds.
Claim your spot along the parade route early and get your free American flags as the parade begins.
Vendors and craft booths open at noon. Pawfest returns this year at 1 p.m. This dog contest is lots of fun and has many prizes and all for a good cause. This event is geared to have fun with our dogs while raising money to support the community and the local animal shelter, Tiny Paws. Come to show off your dog or come and watch the fun. There is a $3 registration fee when you sign up prior to the event and $5 registration fee on the day of the event.
Winning categories: best trick, cutest little dog, cutest big dog, funniest looking dog, oldest dog, most obedient dog and best patriotic costume.
At 2 p.m. the always-hilarious cardboard boat races will begin. Mad Dan’s is running the race and is also sponsoring it this year.
Boat kits with cardboard and duct tape are available at the Twin Lakes Chamber office, 349 E. Main St., Twin Lakes, for $25. It’s always fun to see which boats sink, float or sometimes just turn upside down.
From 2:30 to 5 p.m. is the Twin Lakes Idol contest. Bring your singing talent and your favorite song.
From 4 to 5 p.m. for the first tie, Duck Races. Not real ducks, those cute yellow plastic ones. Buy a duck or ducks to race by buying a duck ticket for $5 or 3 for $10. Cash prizes are $200, $100, $50, and three $25 prizes.
The duck races will help defray the cost of the fireworks and the parade. Tickets are available at the courtesy booth at Richter’s Market Place, Ace Hardware, Associated Bank, Mad Dan’s and The Chamber Building. Randall Fire Department has volunteered to set up the duck racecourse.
At 6 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. the Aquanuts will perform their spectacular water ski shows.
As dusk fireworks will take place over the lake. Sit back and enjoy the show.
Saturday night will be chick rockers night because there are two bands with female leads taking the stage.
First will be MeganZ and Rural Route One will take the stage from 5 to 7 p.m.
The main attraction will be Twin Lakes’ own Megan Ruger, fresh off The Voice and currently touring nationwide.
Highlights
• Genoa City Lions Club will provide Bingo from 1 to 4 p.m. and from 5 to 9 p.m.
• There will be food and drink available all day.
• Game trailers and inflatables will be there for the kids and new this year will be wristband promotion for the inflatable rides. The wristband promotion for the inflatable rides will be on Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. for $10 and from 5 p.m. until close for $15.
• The Cardboard Boat Races: Applications are at the Chamber and kits for the boats. Kit and registration is $25. Registration only is $15. The groups are ages 5-8, ages 9-12, ages 13-15 and 16-adult. The prizes are $50 for first place in each age group.
The boats are made entirely of cardboard and duct tape. Any other things on the boat can’t be functional, must only be for decoration. Only two people per boat. Registration at the event starts at 1:30 p.m. and no registration will be taken after 1:55 p.m. The children must be of the stated age by the day of the race.
• Twin Lakes Idol: Registration fee is $5. Pre-register at the Chamber office or at the event. Prizes are $25, $50 and $100. Have three songs prepared in case you advance in the competition. Karaoke music is provided or you can play a guitar if you choose.
• Baggo: Register at the event; $10 each to play. Blind Draw, no pre-existing teams. First, second and third place prizes based on the number of players entered.
• Pawfest: $3 pre-register or $5 on the day of the event. Winning Categories: best trick, cutest little dog, cutest big dog, funniest looking, oldest, most obedient and best patriotic costume. The awards are first, second and third place ribbons.
Prizes are donated by Doggydo’s & Kitty’s Too Pet Grooming. Water for the animals and people too is donated by Culligan. There is a raffle also at PawFest. Donations are welcome for the raffle. Proceeds will go to Tiny Paws Rescue and Twin Lakes Area Chamber
