Central free-throw-a-thon set for July 9

This is Jerod Boyd’s second year as Central High School’s girls basketball varsity coach and he wants to make good impressions. He has organized a free-throw-a-thon, scheduled for Wednesday, July 9, from 7 to 9 p.m. The public is encouraged to come and encouraged to sponsor free throw.

Students from freshman year to senior will be involved in this event. The students have been out and about, procuring sponsorships from family, friends, neighbors and local businesses.

“I want to instill in my players the importance of giving back to their community,” Boyd said. “Half the money we raise will go back into our programs to improve it. The other half of the money we raise will be given to The Sharing Center.”

Last year, Boyd and his team volunteered to help with the Special Olympics that were held at Wilmot High School. He has set a high bar for Central’s girl’s basketball program.

“I want to start changing the culture into one that little kids are envious of and the older kids have pride being a part of,” he explained. “I want to teach them life lessons that can be taught through the game of basketball and being a part of the team and that includes giving back to the community.”

For more information call the school at (262) 843-2321.
