Antioch Lion’s chicken barbecue is July 27

By Gail Peckler-Dziki/Correspondent

If you are hungry at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, July 27, the Antioch Lions Club Foundation will be serving up their barbequed chicken. Head over to Williams Park and eat your fill. Stay for the silent auction scheduled to start at noon.

People can purchase barbecue tickets at the Piggly Wiggly prior to the event for $10 each. Tickets purchased the day of the event will cost $12.

The GooRoos, a cover band that plays many favorites and at many local places, will play from 4:30 to 6 p.m. There will be bounce houses for the kids from noon until five and a baggo tournament for adults 1 p.m. The fee is $20 entry for two-person teams.

This year, the Antioch Lions, a non-profit 501C3 organization, will also host the auction. There is still time for community members to add to the auction line-up.

About the Antioch Lions Club

The annual chicken barbecue is the Antioch Lions Club’s biggest fundraiser. By adding the auction, the Lions will have more resources to contribute to community needs.

Lions Club’s true calling as a club is to aid with the sight and hearing impaired.

If an Antioch resident (60002 zip) can’t afford an eye exam and/or glasses or a hearing test and hearing aid (similar to the ones available at https://www.earpros.com/hearing-aid-brands/widex-hearing-aids), the Lions pay for exams, glasses and hearing aids.

The Lions also contribute to important community groups and events such as the Open Arms Mission, military care packages, Toys for Tots, food baskets at Thanksgiving and Christmas and the young marines.

The organization funds six $750 scholarships for qualifying Antioch resident students every year. The Lions built the original swimming pool in Antioch and donated $10,000 toward the new Antioch Aqua Center. The Lions funded a baseball field at the Tim Osmond Sports Complex and recently spent $4,800 on signs and upkeep at the Bill Brook Wetland Sanctuary.
