The Southern Lakes Conference acquitted itself well in recent baseball and softball All-Star games.

Seven players and two coaches represented the SLC in the Wisconsin Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association All-Star Game June 17 at Woodside Sports Complex in Mauston.

Westosha Central’s Taylor Bergles, Liz Fonk, Hailey Jester, Larkin Langston and Haley Spoerl, Waterford’s Maddie Szalewski and Wilmot’s Kerrigan Patterson played for the Division 1 Red squad.

Westosha Central’s Konnie and Tom Lampe, who are married, co-coached the Division 1 Red squad.

Four baseball players participated in the Wisconsin Baseball Coaches Association All-Star Classic June 27-28 at EJ Schneider Field at Oshkosh North High School in Oshkosh.

Wilmot’s Evan Ketterhagen and Cam Loveless, Delavan-Darien’s Micah Heath and Union Grove’s Ben Miller played for the East All-Star squad.

Players and coaches for the WFSCA All-Star games were required to collect at least $300 in donations. All proceeds went to the Special Olympics. The WFSCA All-Star games are open to seniors.

The Division 1 Red squad defeated the Division 1 White squad 12-0 in six innings, and beat the Division 1 Black squad 6-1.

Tom Lampe said the White squad consisted mostly of players from northeast Wisconsin, and said the Black squad featured those from the Madison area.

“You had a really solid player at every position, and your job as a coach it to make sure everybody plays,” Tom Lampe said.

Tom Lampe said it helped that five girls from Central participated. The Falcons finished as the WIAA Division 1 state runners-up this season and won the state title in 2013.

Tom Lampe said players earned a spot on the team after being nominated by their coach and being selected by the WFSCA committee for their District.

Sixteen teams of 11 or 12 players in four divisions, split by the colors black, blue, red and white, played in the WFSCA All-Star games.

WBCA member coaches nominate players with either junior or senior standing for their game. The top 72 players in Wisconsin comprise the four squads. Players are expected to collect at least $250 in sponsorships.

The four squads, which split along geographic lines, played in a round-robin format. The North squad featured players from the Green Bay and Fox Valley area. The South squad featured those from the Madison area and the West squad those from La Crosse, Stevens Point and Eau Claire.

The East squad was made-up of players from metro Milwaukee.

The West finished 3-0, the South finished 1-2 and the North finished 0-3.

The East finished 2-1 in four tournament games. The East lost 3-0 to the West June 27 and defeated the South 3-2 and the North 7-5 on June 28.
