Citizen Police Academy applications

The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office is accepting applications for its 11-week Citizen Police Academy (CPA). The class will be held every Wednesday starting Sept. 10, with class graduation on Wednesday, Nov. 29. The CPA consists of a series of classes, discussions and demonstrations of the various operations and Bureaus of the Sheriff’s Office.

Classes will be held for three hours, 6 to 9 p.m., weekly at the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office – Training Division in the large classroom. The goal of the CPA is to create better understanding, communication and partnerships between the citizens of McHenry County and the Sheriff’s Office through education, in order to enhance a safer community.

To be a participant, you must be at least 18 years of age, pass a criminal background check and sign the waiver/hold harmless agreement. Preference is given to those who live or work within McHenry County. Once those have been accommodated, those in other counties are free to attend. The Citizen Police Academy is offered free of charge.

Class size will be limited to 22 students; a minimum of 10 students will be required to hold the Academy. Applications can be downloaded from the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Web page at www.mchenrysheriff.org.     Applications must be postmarked or submitted in person to the Sheriff’s Office by Friday, Aug. 15, 2014. Anyone with questions can contact Deputy Aimeé Knop at (815) 334-4735 or e-mail at [email protected].
