The seeds in last weekend’s Southern Lakes Conference Tournament worked out exactly as predicted for the Westosha Central and Wilmot girls volleyball teams.

Central, seeded third, finished third overall, while Wilmot, the eighth seed, placed eighth.

Burlington, ranked No. 2 in Division 1, captured both the tournament and overall crowns.

The Falcons opened play Saturday at Badger with an 18-25, 25-8, 25-17 win over sixth-seeded Badger, before they fell to second-seeded Union Grove in the next round.

After Central dropped the first set 31-29 to the Broncos, it bounced back for wins of 25-20 and 25-23, but couldn’t close out the match.

Union Grove earned wins of 25-21, 15-9 in the final two sets to pick up the win.

The loss sent Central to the third-place match, which it won over Union Grove, 28-26, 15-25, 25-22, 21-25, 15-13.

Statistical leaders for the Falcons included Maddie Brown with 49 kills and 38 digs; Kaeley Mueller with 27 kills; Rachel Barthel with 21 kills and 59 digs; Abi Marquinski with 21 kills and 10 blocks; Sarah Blair with 80 digs; Emily Bible with 40 digs; and Danielle Stachura with 108 assists and 31 digs.

Wilmot dropped all three of its matches, as it fell in straight sets to Burlington, Elkhorn and Delavan-Darien.

Scores and statistics for Wilmot were unavailable by press time.

Central drew the No. 3 seed in the upcoming WIAA Division 1 regional and hosts Wilmot, the 14th seed, Thursday night at 7 p.m. The winner will face either sixth-seeded Milton or 11th-seeded Janesville Parker Saturday night in a regional final.

The sectional semifinal will be held next Thursday, Oct. 30, followed by the sectional final Saturday, Nov. 1, with a trip to this year’s state tournament on the line.

Burlington enters the post-season as the top-seeded regional team.

Falcons 3-0-2 at boys volleyball invite

The Westosha Central boys volleyball team tied Muskego for the best record Saturday at its own six-team invitational.

Central posted a 3-0-2 overall record. The Falcons recorded victories over Mukwonago, Union Grove and Milwaukee Pius and ties with Muskego and Brookfield Central.

Statistics from the event were unavailable.

The Falcons, who beat visiting Wilmot in four sets last Thursday, traveled to Burlington Monday night for a Southeast Conference matchup. Central will compete in the conference tournament this Saturday at Wilmot.

Wilmot was back in action Wednesday night against visiting Kenosha Tremper, followed by the conference tournament this weekend.

Soccer season ends for local teams

The Westosha Central boys soccer team ended its 2014 season in a WIAA Division 2 regional opener last week.

Central, the sixth seed, fell 2-0 to third-seeded Stoughton. The Vikings lost in the next round to top-seeded Elkhorn, which advanced to face Milton this week in a sectional semifinal.

Milton ended Wilmot’s season in a shootout last Thursday night.
