Lady Panthers roll to eighth straight win

Wilmot junior Delaney Sjong scored a career-high 24 points in a 76-55 route of visiting Delavan-Darien Dec. 22 to extend its winning streak to eight games.

Sjong, a 5-foot-10 guard/forward, snagged a team-high seven boards, contributed two assists along with three steals and a blocked shot to give the Panthers its best start since 2012-13 when the Panthers rolled to a 13-0 start.

The 5-10 junior’s previous career best was a 16-point output Dec. 16 against Elkhorn.

Defensively, the Panthers had 18 steals compared to none by Delavan-Darien, and out-rebounded the Comets 37-22.

Junior 5-6 guard Devin Coleman, who had four of Wilmot’s steals, also had a blocked shot, scored seven points and contributed six steals, tying senior Sam Kirk for the most among Panther defenders.

The 5-7 Kirk and junior Kalyssa Koehn compiled eight points each, with Kirk adding two blocked shots, four rebounds and six assists.

Koehn, a 5-8 forward, had a steal and two rebounds.

Junior McKenna Stanek scored 10 points, adding three steals, four assists and two boards.

With exception to Kat Lopez’s game-high 25 points, the Panthers held all other Comet scorers to single digits.
