A 45-year-old Twin Lakes woman arrested by US Marshals in the village last month is still awaiting extradition to McHenry County, Ill., on allegations she killed a McHenry woman while driving under the influence of heroin.

Sheree Ann Shaw, arrested May 26 in Twin Lakes, reportedly drove a 2002 Ford Taurus northbound on North Richmond Road in McHenry when she struck Amy Thorton and her husband, who was operating a 2007 Harley Davidson Road Glide.

Initially, Shaw was arrested and taken into custody on charges of operating without a valid drivers license and posted bond.

But, when Amy Thorton died as a result of injuries May 15, charges including aggravated driving under the influence causing death, a felony, two misdemeanor charges and a petty offense were tacked on after the investigation concluded on May 20, according to a McHenry Police Department news release.

According to Illinois law, Shaw faces imprisonment of 3 to 14 years if convicted.

Twin Lakes Police Chief Adam Grosz stated his department had been informed by the McHenry Police Department that they were seeking Shaw, and helped in the first attempt, to no avail.

“We were initially informed that they were looking for Ms. Shaw, but the first time they were up, we could not locate her,” said Grosz, noting they were not involved in the arrest by the US Marshals.

With the help of the US Marshals Office, McHenry County authorities located Shaw in Twin Lakes May 26. They took her into custody and transported her to Walworth County Jail in Elkhorn.

McHenry Deputy Police Chief John Birk said according to state law, US Marshals transported her to Elkhorn, instead of the Kenosha County Jail primarily due to distance.

“She would have been taken to the nearest county jail in Wisconsin after her arrest to await extradition proceedings,” Birk stated.

The following day, Shaw had been released after she posted a $2,500 cash bond, contingent on specific terms and conditions, according to online court records.

Meanwhile, a warrant remains for Shaw’s arrest in McHenry County, after the 22nd Judicial Circuit extended the warrant until November at a June 7 hearing, according to a statement released by the circuit clerk’s office.
