A 45-year-old Twin Lakes woman awaiting extradition to Illinois on charges of aggravated driving under the influence causing death has been arrested in Las Vegas Wednesday, according to a McHenry County prosecutor.

Sheree Ann Shaw, arrested May 26 in Twin Lakes by US Marshals, was allegedly under the influence of heroin in a two-vehicle accident that claimed the life of Amy Thornton of McHenry on May 6.

According to a press release, Shaw reportedly drove a Ford Taurus northbound on North Richmond Road in McHenry when she struck Thornton and her husband, who was operating a Harley Davidson Motorcycle.

Shaw was initially charged with operating without a valid drivers license, but after Thornton died as a result of injuries on May 15, prosecutors tacked on more charges, including aggravated driving under the influence causing death on May 20.

After McHenry Police failed to find Shaw in Twin Lakes between May 20-25, they sought help from the US Marshals, who took her into custody on May 26 and transported her to the Walworth County Jail in Elkhorn.

However, after Shaw posted $2,500 bond, it is still unclear how long she  was missing.

According to online court records, she had a June 24 hearing scheduled in Walworth County Circuit Court.

Before her arrest Wednesday, a McHenry County court official reported Shaw’s files were ordered sealed, referring all questions to the State’s Attorney’s Office.

“Ms. Shaw was arrested in Las Vegas today and is in custody,” said Michael Combs of the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office. “The state’s attorney’s office will extradite her to Illinois for prosecution.”

The Westosha Report will have more details as they become available.
