Parents who enroll children at Lakewood School will see the price of a school lunch increase a dime entering the 2016-17 school year.

The increase, approved 3-1 at a June 22 meeting, take the price of lunch at the school from $2.65 to $2.75 for the new school year.

Board Clerk Kathy Ticha was the sole opponent, voting against the measure, with Board Vice President Rhett Suhre, Patricia Platts and Jennifer Matlock approving the increase.

Amanda Hahn, Board President, was absent from the meeting.

All school districts are mandated to report participation in the National School Lunch Program to the Department of Public Instruction, District Administrator Joe Price said.

“We have to provide assurances to the state that we are participating in the program,” Price stated. “This is typically due by the end of June to prepare for the following school year.”

Due to participating in the National School Lunch Program, the district is left with no option, other than increasing prices.

“This is part of the state and federal requirements that schools recalculate lunch prices each year,” he stated. “We do not have a choice in the pricing so long as we are a part of the NSLP.”
