At the end of operations Wednesday, WestoshaMarket’s season will draw to a close, according to a Kenosha Common Markets press release.

Kenosha Common Markets, Inc., a nonprofit organization that operates Kenosha HarborMarket, launched WestoshaMarket in 2015 at AquaTerra Farms in Bristol, and in 2016, moved the farmer’s market to the Kenosha County Fairgrounds.

The organization’s Board of Directors discontinued the market, citing current circumstances and timing, the press release stated.

“Due to unforeseen circumstances, it was determined that the market was not a viable venture for the remainder of the season,” the press release noted. “Given the natural break during the Kenosha County Fair, board members agreed that the timing was most appropriate for the cancellation.”

Despite the cancellation, Secretary/Treasurer Melanie Hovey of the nonprofit organization, expressed gratitude to the Kenosha County Fair Board for allowing WestoshaMarket to hold operations on the fairgrounds.

“The Kenosha County Fairgrounds is an ideal location for a farmer’s market – and in the future, it could be home to a market again. We are grateful to Fair Director, Denise Zirbel, and the Kenosha County Fair Board of Directors for the opportunity to try out their beautiful venue, as well as to the vendors and customers who joined us at our market days,” Hovey said in the press release.

While the 2016 season comes to end, plans for next year were not disclosed.

“Our goal is always to create superior markets that are both beneficial for customers and lucrative for vendors. WestoshaMarket was just a little ahead of its time trying to operate in this remote rural location.” Hovey said in the press release.

Westosha Market, which opened July 6, was originally scheduled through Sept. 28 and ran from 2:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m.
