GIRLS VOLLEYBALL: Wilmot doubles last season’s SLC win total

WilmotLarge-webLast year, Wilmot Union High School compiled two girls volleyball wins in the Southern Lakes Conference.

But, after the Panthers swept host Waterford Thursday, they doubled that total and improved to 4-2 in the SLC.

Overall, Wilmot has a 17-11 record.

According to coach Kevin Raap, the team exhibited intensity throughout the three sets, and made a concerted effort to minimize mistakes.

“We put together three very good sets to come out on top tonight,” Raap said. “We played with energy, we played with a desire to keep the ball off the floor on our side.”

“Most importantly, we played with a drive to win,” said Raap, whose team won 25-23, 25-18, 25-19.

The Panthers committed just two errors.

While senior setter Devin Coleman paced the offense, chipping in 31 assists, the front row spiked the Wolverines, courtesy of junior Rebecca Bell, senior Lauren Daniels and junior Sam Serak.

Bell, who tabulated a .474 hitting percentage, tied Daniels for the team lead at 10 kills apiece.

Coming behind the Bell/Daniels duo was Serak, who produced nine kills and added 11 digs.

Defensively, Panthers’ junior Sara Bedessem had 14 digs, three ahead of Serak, and five more than Daniels.

Additionally, Wilmot had six aces on 74 serves.
